Mitzvah Month 2009 Gets the Volunteering Momentum Rolling

More than 300 community members came out on Sunday, November 15, to Lend a Hand and Touch a Heart.  Mitzvah Month 2009 Community Action Day was held across central Ohio and Jewish community organizations and synagogues partnered together to provide mitzvot, good deeds, to the entire community.

Mitzvah Month 2009 Co-Chairs were Shelly Igdaloff, Suzanne Ecker and Pam Borovetz. Mitzvah Month 2009 would not have been possible without numerous community sponsors, including ArtBrands, McDonald’s Polaris, The Inn at Cedar Falls, Yenkin Majestic, Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, Kroger, New Albany Jewish Culture Club, Yachad, Home Depot on Cleveland Avenue and Jon and Susie Diamond.

Some of the various projects completed by community members on Community Action Day included:

  • sewing surgery dolls for Nationwide’s Children’s Hospital
  • assembling activity kits for Project Sunshine
  • cooking four months of kosher meals for Jewish Family Services' most needy
  • cleaning up the fence line along Alum Creek behind the JCC east
  • organizing the new library at the Northeast JCC
  • sorting donations and leading craft activities at the YWCA
  • re-organizing the Jewish Teacher Resource Center in the Ester C. Melton Building
  • selling baked goods and raising money to buy goods for care packages for Jewish US Soldiers and IDF Soldiers
  • collecting items for care packages to Jewish US Soldiers and IDF Soldiers
  • writing letters of support and thanks to serviceman and women
  • and more...

Mitzvah Month is a great opportunity to be used as a springboard to continue volunteering.
